My Favorite Oatmeal Recipe

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well.

I don’t know about you guys, but whenever I search for healthy breakfast ideas, oatmeal would be the first thing on the list. It looks aesthetically pleasing but far from appetizing, for me personally. Mainly because I don’t enjoy the combination fruits-oatmeal or nuts-oatmeal (which are the toppings that most people recommend), and also I am not a sweet tooth person, especially in the morning.

I’ve been curious to try oatmeal, but never found a light/ simple recipe that I could easily make every morning, with accessible ingredients. Until one time I came across a What I eat in a day video of Annie Jaffrey, where she showed the way she made her oatmeal, and I really liked it. Though I modified the recipe, I am really happy with how it turned out.

I thought, for today’s post, I would share with you this simple and quick oatmeal recipe.
You will need:

  • Milk
  • Oats
  • 2 to 3 dates (cut into pieces).
  • A handful of raisins
  • A lot of honey.

Side note: I cook my oatmeal with milk, and I like it to be “liquid” rather than dry; that’s why I put enough milk (almost double the quantity of oat) so that it can keep its creamy texture.

Method:
1- After pouring milk on top of the dry oats, give the oats a stir until the milk is evenly distributed.
2- Add your pieces of dates and raisins.
3- Stir the oatmeal periodically while it’s cooking. Usually it takes about 8 to 10 minutes for it to be ready, but the exact cook time will depend on the amount and type of oats you’re preparing.
4- Transfer your oatmeal to a deep serving bowl.

5- Finally, add the amount of honey you desire. I usually add 2 tablespoons of it.

This has been my favourite breakfast for months now. I just love the way dates melt in the oatmeal, and add a natural sweetness to it.

There you have it. I really hope you enjoyed this post.
Now it’s your turn: What is your favourite oatmeal topping?
